The frontend group at GitLab was experiencing the challenges of needing to hire a lot of great people quickly for a fast-growth startup. Evaluating real engineering skills vs “whiteboard” skills, creating a consistent candidate experience, and making sure we were consistently raising the bar were very important to the team. GitLab Frontend Engineering Manager Clement Ho looked to the product itself to solve some of these challenges including leveraging GitLab CI/CD as an automation engine to seed interview projects that candidates could use to demonstrate their skills. This live demo will give you some practical tips for both conducting technical interviews and using GitLab as an automation tool.
